As a Barclays Junior Data Scientist, you will support the delivery of innovative customer & client use cases, in partnership with product owners, team members and data experts. Engaging with wider business stakeholders and external clients. Supporting cases across the business areas and team members in key initiatives as well as assisting the design and implementation of prototyping and co-creation with external clients as well as the longer-term strategic E2E product lifecycle roadmaps.

This opportunity is location flexible. We will consider requests for locating the role at an alternative Barclays’ key UK office from that advertised.

What will you be doing?
• Responsible for E2E delivery of business use cases
  • Ensuring alignment of project towards wider bank strategy goals
  • Supporting the build out of data driven strategy for sales, servicing and communications to our customers
  • Learning and adopting Data Science industry best practices on project initiatives
  • Participating in team knowledge sharing sessions to build knowledge transfer, upskilling and explore join project opportunities
  • Ensuring the work is recognised externally, building and creating a brand for the team, in order to become recognised globally for success (such as awards, conference and external hackathons)
  • Collaborating with wider team members to upskill and gain business knowledge
  • Ensuring all data driven outcomes and designs are communicated in a business-related manner, ensuring a constant link between how data inputs and outputs affect the business requirements on projects

What we’re looking for:
• Bachelor’s Degree (preferred but not essential: degree in quantitative field such as Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Economics or equivalent)
  • Be an accountable team member with a positive attitude for learning and improvement and an attitude for collaboration within the team
  • Be proactive at own research to complete assigned tasks and ask questions when gathering requirements
  • Possess understanding and awareness of common ML basics (Exploratory analysis; data manipulation, learning /evaluation, Logistic Regression, Decision tree and Time series analysis)

Skills that will help you in the role:
• Basic of data visualization graphs (e.g. D3, High Charts, Tableau, R Shiny)
  • Experience in one of R, Python, SAS/SQL, including their relevant libraries for analytical activity (e.g. pandas, numpy, sklearn for python)
  • Comfortable at presenting to fellow team members own project component
  • Attitude to contextualize own task to the wider business goal

Where will you be working?
In the heart of Canary Wharf, our headquarters at Churchill Place boasts onsite amenities such as; a gym, staff restaurant and deli bar, and is easily accessible by tube and bus links. With a population of around 5000 staff the atmosphere is second to none with a real buzz being created around the offices within.
